Niçin resim öğrenimi görmeye gerek duydunuz?
*Ben seramik eğitimi yaptım.Ama bu iş bir diploma olmadan da yapılır.Resim için, daha doğrusu iyi bir ressam olabilmek için, toplum diplomaya değer veriyor.Bu nedenle Paris’ten sonra Münih Akademisi’nde resim öğrenciliğine başladım.
Jale Yılmabaşar’ı resme iten neydi?
*Bir seramikçinin tablo yapmasını kimse hazmedemiyor.Seramikçiden ressam olmaz diyenler oluyordu.Oysa seramik de bir resim sanatıdır.Bazıları yüzüme karşı, “ Sen ressam değilsin seramikçisin.” Dediler.Bu eleştiriler ve çok takdir ettiğim bir insanın,“ Seni dünyaca ünlü bir ressam olarak görmek istiyorum.” demesi beni bu alana itti.
Farklı ülkelerde sergiler açtınız?Hangisi sizin için özel?
*1972 yılında Avustralya’da açtığım sergi beni çok heyecanlandırmıştı.Türk kıyafetleriyle açtığım sergide giydiğim Bindallı bütün izleyenleri hayran bırakmıştı.Tam dört yıl öncesinden tarihi belirlenmiş ve muhteşem olmuştu.Yine 1990 yılında Paris’te açtığım sergide Picasso ve Miro’nun eserleri yanında benim eserlerimin sergilenmesi hem gurur verici hem de çok başarılıydı.
2007 yılında Münih’te açacağınız serginin çalışmaları nasıl gidiyor?Sergiyi gezenler nelerle karşılaşacaklar?
*Her geçen gün artan bir heyecanla kendimi sanata adadığım için özellikle sergiye hazırlanır gibi değilim.Ama ülkemizi temsil etmenin özellikle bu günlerde öneminin ve sorumluluğunun bilincinde olarak daha özgün eserler ve kendi özümüzü, kültürümüzü yansıtıcı ve tanıtıcı eserler üretmeye çalışıyorum.Sergiyi gezenler daha önce de tanıdıkları bu Türk sanatçısının başarısını kabul edeceklerdir.

" NAZENİN NERDE " İSİMLİ YAĞLIBOYA TABLOSU
Jale Yılmabaşar Kanuni Sultan Süleyman Sergisi kutlamalarına rastlayan dönemde Paris'teki Unesco binasında Miro'nun seramiklerinin yanında seramiklerini, Picasso'nun resimlerinin yanında resimlerini sergiler. Buradaki 2x10 m. boyutundaki "Nazenin Nerede" isimli yağlıboya tablosu dizi dizi pek çok yelkenlinin rengarenk ritm dolu geometrik düzenlemesine sahne olur. Ne tesadüftür ki Rahmi Koç da dünyayı dolaşmayı hedeflediği teknesine "Nazenin" adını vermiş; Koç Topluluğu Yılmabaşar'a pek çok projesinde sponsor olmuştur.
Resimlerinizde horoz,göz,kuş ve köprü figürünün kullanılmasının bir özelliği var mı?
*Herkes “ Neden horoz motifi?” diye soruyor.Hayatımda hiç horozum olmadı hatta 1963 ‘ten bu güne kadar horozla çekilmiş bir fotografım bile yok.
Horoz figürünü çok kullanmam sanırım eğitim dönemimde horoz resimleri üzerine çok çalışmamdan kaynaklanıyor, o kadar çok horoz figürü çalıştım ki sonradan benim sembolüm oldu. Hatta horozlar öyle meşhur oldular ki, bütün sergilerimde sanatseverler “ horozlarınız nerede?” diye sormaya başladılar ve onların ısrarla istediği motifler olduğundan resimlerimde ve seramiklerimde her zaman severek kullanıyorum. Bir de horoz kıvraktır, ben de eski bir balerinim.Herhangi bir canlının vücut yapısındaki güzelliğe önem veririm.ayrıca horozu çok renkli bir hayvan olduğu için seviyorum.
1985 yılında Fatih Sultan Mehmet Köprüsü'nün ayakları atölyemin üzerine yapıldığından atölyemin bulunduğu bina istimlak edilerek yıkıldı, ben de bu duruma çok üzüldüm ve seramiklerimde ve resimlerimde köprü figürü kullanmaya başladım.
